PROJECT BAKAWAN IS ON THE GO

The tourism industry of Bauang is booming. This is how Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III described the tourism industry of this town with the influx of tourists to different tourist destinations. Mayor Martin conceived Project Bakawan as an eco-tourism mangrove park, situated on a more than a hectare of land covered with different species of mangrove at Barangay Pudoc and Parian Oeste.

The mayor asked the municipal agriculture office, MENRO, RHU, MPDC, Tourism, Engineering, Budget office, the Barangay Captains of Pudoc, Parian Oeste and the president of the fishermen’s organization as the implementers of the project during the GABAY at Barangay Carmay.

An audio visual presentation and the billboard of the mangrove farms are ready as soon as these are finished, full blown development will take place.

Cooperative will be in-charge of the activities and livelihood. Management and administration of the project will be by the barangay local folks for them to be economically independent.

These are taglines that capture the hearts of tourists and buyers as they enter the portals of the newly blessed Bauang Negosyo Center and One Town One Product (OTOP) store.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Assistant Secretary Blesila A. Lantayona graced the launching and blessing of Bauang’s Negosyo Center and One Town One Product (OTOP) store at Bauang Acacia Acade.

DTI Regional Director Florante O. Leal, Provincial Director Daria R. Mingaracal with Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III and Vice Mayor Bonifacio G. Malinao, assisted in the cutting of the ribbon.

Rev. Father Rizal Acosta, an SVD priest of Bauang and a local resident blessed the center.

Bauang commemorates 72nd Liberation Day

“May the young generation imbibed in their hearts the significance of this day. May we always remember the heroism and gallantry that our veterans did. We know you have sacrificed your lives, your families and even your loved ones just so we will be freed from the bondage and clutches of slavery.”

This was the message of Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III when he addressed the veterans of the Agoo-Aringay-Tubao Veterans Post Veterans District, VFP, Region I, the municipal council composed of Vice Mayor Bonifacio Malinao, Sr., Sangguniang Bayan Members Alexander Romeo Obong, Danilo Abuan, George Picardal, Warlito Daus, Barangay Captains, some principals of the public elementary and secondary schools, LGU Department heads, employees and guests.

Mr. Fisher A. Guerrero, Field Service Extension Office Head, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, Region I graced the occasion. He mentioned that the veterans played a crucial role in the liberation of Northern Luzon particularly in Luzon. He expressed his thanks for the invitation given to him.

TIMPUYOG LAUNCHES ART EXHIBIT

Timpuyog, a group of young artists launched an art exhibit at Rosebowl Restaurant, Pagdalagan, Bauang, La Union.

With the theme “Artes ti Ilocandia,” this art exhibit included paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and handicrafts made by various La Union and Ilocos artists.

Timpuyog is an Iloco term which means unity. It is a freshly established group of drafts men, painters, sculptors from Region I, including Pangasinan and Baguio City. Their aim is to preserve the cultural heritage not only in Region I (Ilocos Region) but in the whole Philippines.

Present during the launching was Roger Santos, Vice President of the Arts Association of the Philippines and Rey Resurrecion, a prominent artist from Luna, La Union, a descendant of Juan and Antonio Luna.

“I challenge the artists of La Union to make arts in the province stronger and to make La Union art as the landmark of Ilocandia art and culture,” Santos said.
