Local Bayanihan

Municipal employees, members of the Paringao Barangay Council together with BPSOs, and volunteers joined energy for a half-day sandbagging along the Lossoc Creek in Paringao last June 30. This aims to mitigate the flooding during heavy rains and typhoon in the area.

Mayor Martin de Guzman expressed the urgency of dredging and construction of a slope protection for the said creek to ease the flowing of the water directly to the sea and protect residents, from Paringao and Baccuit Norte, living near the creek. Residents vividly remember the 2012 Typhoon Helen that caused flash flood and damage to their properties and to their livelihood as well.

Written by Weekly City Bulletin

Being vital to La Union heritage, identify and diversity, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) will use its offices as pilot area in the implementation of the Iloco Code as per Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Ordinance No. 026-2012 making Iloco as the official Language of the province.

Gov. Manuel C. Ortega instructed all department heads through a written memorandum to get signages with Iloco vernaculars from the office of the Provincial Information and Tourism Officer to be posted in their own offices to serve as a guide and method of instruction to some guests and visitors in the Provincial Capitol.

With the aim of preserving and developing the Iloco language Governor Ortega firmly believes that the implementation if the code will lead to a better and faster communication most especially in the performance of the PGLU’s tasks of bringing the best public service to its constituents.

BAUANG is 427 Years Old
Written by Joan Diaz

A simple celebration was made for Bauang’s 427 years since its founding on January 5, 1586. It is one of the oldest towns in La Union after Agoo founded in 1586 and before Bacnotan founded in 1599.

Bauang was a pre-colonial settlement in the country that became one of the first missions organized by the Augustinians in Northern Luzon. It is also one of the first 12 towns that created La Union in 1850.
