Bauang MBC Conducts Mass Bloodletting

Give freely; Give often, Blood donation matters. With this in mind, a mass bloodletting was conducted by the Municipal Blood Council (MBC) headed by Mayor Eulogio Martin Clarence P. de Guzman III in cooperation with Department of Health (DOH) and Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) at Sacred Heart School, Bauang, La Union, November 13, 2015.

Congressman Emmanuel Francisco R. Ortega III, Abono Party List thanked the Municipality of Bauang for coming up with a noble program that helps in prolonging the lives of the sick especially the poor and the marginalized.

294 blood donors from Philippine National Police of the Regional Training Center in Aringay and from the different barangays of Bauang registered, 128 at PNRC and 166 at the Ilocos Training Regional Center. Only 172 were qualified donors. 170 bags of blood were extracted.

I'ts 2nd Time In South Korea For The Baggak Choir

Bauang, La Union-- Representing the Philippines and recognizing their singing prowess and talent, the Bauang Baggak Choir was invited to perform during the Arirang Festival in Jeongseon County in South Korea. The prestigious Arirang Festival, declared as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, was participated by different performing groups from the Kazakhstan, China and Japan.

The choir sang their renditions of popular Korean folk songs like Arirang, Nodle Kangbyon, Ilocano songs Manang Biday and Ilocana, and Filipino songs Kalesa, Paru-Paro, and Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi among others. The choir’s interpretation of these songs garnered applauses and cheers from the Koreans and the other performers.

Performing second time in SoKor, the choir was earlier invited by the Taebaek City Government’s and performed in the 32nd Taebaek City National Choir Competition last year. The active exchange of cultural performances between Bauang and the different South Korean groups was the product of friendship city relationship forged between Taebaek City and Bauang.

Another mobile and web based disaster management system allowing citizens to contribute and receive disaster related information , dubbed eBayanihan, was launched in Bauang July 21.

“One could use his/her own mobile to send SMS and submit Citizen Reports, through Mobile Applications with quick access to reporting and trough the Web,” Dr. Regina Justina Estuar, the Project Leader of eBayanihan. The eBayanihan Disaster Reporting System is a project of the Ateneo de Manila University, DOST, DILG along with other institutions. “We have partnered with several LGUs like Bauang which are also pilot LGUs for the eBayanihan,” she added.

Among the pilot barangays for the eBayanihan System who likewise attended the orientation were the coastal barangays of Baccuit Norte, Pugo, Parian Oeste, Pudoc, Payocpoc Sur, Pilar, Paringao and the upland barangays of Disso-or, Palugsi-Limmansangan and Acao.

A South Korean Donates to an Indigent Family

For how many years, Melanie and her family, from Palugsi-Limmansangan, have been living in a makeshift house made of canvass and other improvised materials. A kitchen and with a space for sleeping is what makes up the inside of their “house”. Melanie Ladie Martinez and partner Christian Galvan, together with their children aged 6, 3, and 2 are beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or more popularly known as 4Ps. Both parents have irregular source of income, Melanie as a part-time vegetable vendor while Christian a seasonal mango picker.Despite receiving a cash allowance from Pantawid for their children, they do not have enough to provide for the basic needs of their family like shelter.
