"USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO IMPROVE OUR FAMILY AND OUR COMMUNITY”- USEC HAROLD E. CLAVITE

This was the challenge of Undersecretary Harold E. Clavite, Director General, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) during the ASEAN Multi-Sectoral Forum at Awesome Hotel, Ili Norte, San Juan, La Union, October 24.

“Be a part of our national volunteer network of responsible social media users”, he urged the participants. He said that the honeymoon stage of Filipinos on the use of gadgets is over. He stated that 56% of the Filipinos use the internet daily, 66 million Filipinos log at Facebook every month and 77 % use mobile cellphones.
He said that the resources of the government must be used to empower people. He considers social media as the primary source of information and that every user must be a responsible user.

According to him, Facebook is considered as an imaginary friend by every Filipino, and he is able to express his feelings and sentiments through social media.

PIA Regional Director Jennilyne C. Role presented an ASEAN Briefing. Anniely J. Ferrer, Chief, Policy and Plan Division of the Department of Social Welfare and Development RO1, presented the ASEAN Socio-Cultural community. James E. Fadrilan, Department of Interior and Local Government R1 discussed “Federalism” stating that Federalism will help small cities and municipalities with low income since 80% of the income will go to them and 20% goes to the central government.

John Gagucas, Senior Economic Development Specialist of National Economic and Development Authority R1 presented “Ambisyon Natin 2040”. He said that every Filipino’s life is a simple and a comfortable life centered on the family: matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay.” He added that the Phillipine’s vision can be visualized using the government’s policies and its enabling environment with the support of everybody and the private sector. It can be achieved through a flexible plan.

Kate Defendor, Creative Communication Officer Presidential Communications Operations Office tackled “Freedom of Information.” She said that anyone can have free information access from government agencies upon completion of requirements.

Participants in the different local government units, government and private offices and institutions, offices and schools from all over region attended the forum.
Bauang LGU sent its representatives to the forum headed by MENRO Wilson Samuel Caluza, Tourism Officer Myrna Romero, Joan Rimorin, MPDC, Bernadette Corla, Treasurer’s Office, Ricky Ray Sabado of MDRRMC.
