Timpuyog, a group of young artists launched an art exhibit at Rosebowl Restaurant, Pagdalagan, Bauang, La Union.

With the theme “Artes ti Ilocandia,” this art exhibit included paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and handicrafts made by various La Union and Ilocos artists.

Timpuyog is an Iloco term which means unity. It is a freshly established group of drafts men, painters, sculptors from Region I, including Pangasinan and Baguio City. Their aim is to preserve the cultural heritage not only in Region I (Ilocos Region) but in the whole Philippines.

Present during the launching was Roger Santos, Vice President of the Arts Association of the Philippines and Rey Resurrecion, a prominent artist from Luna, La Union, a descendant of Juan and Antonio Luna.

“I challenge the artists of La Union to make arts in the province stronger and to make La Union art as the landmark of Ilocandia art and culture,” Santos said.

He advised the artists present to be industrious, to be inspired, not to be affected by their mood and to make art works even during Saturdays and Sundays.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member  of La Union Christian Rivera, an artist himself, was the guest of honor during the launching. He said that during the AYAT Festival, there will be an art competition featuring Agri-tourism in La Union since art and tourism go together.
