“Continue touching the lives of your barangay mates”- Nisce

This was the challenge of Vice Governor of La Union Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce when he graced the Bauang’s Rabii ti Bumarangay at Farmers’ Civic Center.

Nisce inspired the local officials of Bauang headed by Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin de Guzman III, the 39 barangay captains, their kagawads and their barangay mates by relating an anecdote about a boy whom the Vice Governor gave a Christmas gift of ₱200 pesos. The boy gave voluntarily the ₱100 pesos to an old man known as “Kalapati” of San Fernando City as a gesture of kindness.

He told the audience to continue making a difference in the lives of people they come in contact with in their daily works.

Business owners of Bauang promised to cooperate with Bauang LGU and the PNP to fight illegal drugs in the municipality.
“I focus on the program on peace and order in our town. This is everybody’s concern,” Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III said.

He further added that the major problem the country is facing is the proliferation of illegal drugs. He is soliciting the support of the business sector on this matter.
“We are under the state of lawlessness but the PNP and the Armed Forces are helping us in this regard. We have started with the campaign of illegal drugs but we still have to cont

inue working hard to fight it”, he further stressed.

He urged everyone to submit themselves because the truth shall make everyone free. He commended the suggestion of Atty. Reynaldo V. Dulay, the past president of Bauang Tourism Council to have a seminar workshop not only on illegal drugs but also on terrorism and sex trafficking.

West Point Returns San Pedro Bell to PH
Written by Jon Melegrito, http://globalnation.inquirer.net/

WEST POINT, New York — A church bell that once belonged to a Catholic parish in Bauang, La Union, rang for the last time outside a Catholic Chapel here. The bell is returning home.

After being away for more than a hundred years, the San Pedro Bell – baptized and named after a patron saint – received the blessings of a Catholic chaplain during a valediction ceremony at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel last Friday, April 29.

Nearly a hundred members of the Filipino American community, Philippine Embassy officials, diplomats and scholars, and U.S. Military Academy (USMA) cadets, staff, officers and guests, gathered for the send-off.

“Today is a joyous and happy day for all of us,” said Col. Matthew Pawlikowski, USMA’s Catholic chaplain who officiated the Catholic Mass and led the procession to the site outside the chapel overlooking the Hudson River where the bell rested.

Sending the San Pedro Bell home is “the right and honorable thing to do,” said USMA Chief of Staff Colonel Wayne A. Green in his remarks. “And so we’re here today, in the spirit of friendship and cooperation with our friends from the Philippines, to say farewell to the San Pedro Bell, which has been part of the West Point community for many years, and return it to its rightful place.”
