Bauang Local Government Unit headed by outgoing Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III extended assistance to an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who worked at a palace at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Lovely Acosta Baruelo, 29 years old, a domestic helper, married with two daughters from Dalingo, Acao, Bauang, La Union arrived in her home the night of May 14. She was reunited finally with her family after her one year and two months’ work at Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Bauang Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) with its head, Marvin S. Subala upon knowing that she was from Bauang immediately went to Dalingo, Acao to inquire about her. Subala endorsed her case to Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Region I for proper action and assistance.
When she reported at HRMO Office, on May 15, 2019, she related her sad experience in the hands of her very cruel employer.
“They tied me on a tree and exposed me under the heat of the sun for 9 hours. After that, they deported me immediately,” Baruelo narrated.
She added that the princess, her employer did the unkind and inhuman treatment, for she was not able to bring inside the palace the chairs she cleaned. A sand storm came and it soiled the chairs.
“I am very thankful that I am now home safe and sound in the arms of my loving family that I missed so much,” she expressed.
Facebook user Sononir Cabrera Kristina shared images of Baruelo tied to a tree. Kristina said that Baruelo is the sister of her batch mate that she knew very well.
Through the influence of social media, she was rescued. The news was confirmed by Kristina through the comment section of her post. The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh reported that Baruelo’s case was referred to them on May 9 and she was repatriated on the same day. Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that she arrived in Manila at 8:55 PM on May 9, 2019. She stayed with her relatives for some days in Manila then went home to Bauang last May 15.
