Providing a decent home for LGU employees is the lasting legacy that Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III leaves to his constituents before he steps down from his office this June 30, 2019.
This lofty dream of the mayor came into realization during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PAG-IBIG and in the groundbreaking of the LGU Housing Project on March 12, 2019 at Barangay Bawanta, Bauang, La Union.
“We thank PAG-IBIG for helping us realize this dream to have decent homes for our LGU employees. I hope and pray that soon our marginalized sector can also benefit from your low housing program,” the mayor said.
He is very happy that finally his dream is coming into a realization. At first, he said that the LGU has meager resources and he didn’t know how to proceed with the project.
“We are putting our hearts in this project. This is ours. I am leaving this to you, department heads. Whoever will win in the next election and he/she will be given the opportunity, this project must be continued. Let us take care of it since the LGU has invested so much in this project,” the mayor said.
“I hope this is not only an obligation for each of us but it is a responsibility for our own fellow Bauangeños,” he added.
When he met a staff of PAG-IBIG at a housing caravan in Baguio City, he raised his concern. Then PAG-IBIG called his office and visited the LGU to explain to employees regarding this housing project.
PAG-IBIG staff led by Mr. Fermin A. Sta. Teresa Jr., Senior Vice President Business Development Sector was present during this significant event.
He explained that part of PAG-IBIG’s info caravan was to make it sure that all members will be more accessible of the programs and projects of the office.
“Our project like this in the country side housing is everywhere. Our housing is more superior and of better quality compared to the subdivisions,” Sta. Teresa said.
PAG-IBIG’s interest for the housing is 5.3% per annum, the lowest in the market to give opportunity for the low income employees. They subsidize the interest for five years and they don’t compete with the developer but they augment what the developer has.
Bauang Housing Project is the 2nd in Northern Luzon and the first in La Union.
